Totally true. Back in the 1930's author Sinclair Lewis said that when fascism comes to the USA it will be carrying the cross and wrapped in a flag.

It's hard to believe we are still expected to swallow this crap about being peace-loving or freedom-spreading people -- although the voters have shown and polls show we are not buying it as much as we are expected too.
I guess on the good side is the apparent fact that we do think Freedom and Democracy are good things. (Although not the real reasons for war, invasions, and the turning of our country into a fascist controlled nation)

So that's how we started out and that's how we have mainly been and that's how we are now: We have gangsters in the White House and wimps and special interest sell-outs in the Congress. With a mainstream media that shovels out tons of propaganda day by day and massive Orwellian efforts to convince the population that PEACE MEANS WAR or telling us "What reasonable American people really want is blagh blagh blagh." when the reality is that the majority of the good-hearted American people want PEACE MEANS PEACE.

Because of how our leaders and politicians fail to honor the voice of the people, esp. in a government that claims it's power is based in the people (i.e. the consent of the governed) I believe the Constitutional tools of: referendum, recall, and initiative are all we have left to fight back with.

(Internal violence by any US citizens or groups is not going to overthrow the American government, and such tactics --- although expressing an often appropriate rage -- tend to turn into evils as great as they oppose).

Trying to appeal for understanding also is a failure because these leaders are really gangsters; wolves in sheep's clothing, at best. So it's pointless to keep 'asking,' wolves to be nice; instead we have to kick them out of office. ASAP. Before the invasion of Iran, if possible.
