Ia terletak di hulu Sungai Tutuh dengan keluasan 544 km persegi. Kawasan ini mempunyai kepelbagaian spesis yang menakjubkan kerana ia terletak dari kawasan tanah pamah dengan altitud dari 50 meter sehingga 2,376 meter. Kawasn ini juga mempunyai 17 zon vegetasi. Ianya telah diwartakan sebagai Taman Negara pada 3 Oktober 1974. taman Negara Mulu mempunyai 3 gunung, iaitu Gunung Mulu (2,376 m), Gunung Api (1,750 m) dan Gunung Benarat (1,585 m) serta 300 km gua yang telah diterokai, salah satu sistem gua batu kapur terbesar di dunia.
