Troops save aid workers in Chad drama

IRISH peacekeeping troops rescued 24 humanitarian aid workers after their compound came under attack from armed bandits in Chad.

The troops did not encounter resistance when they moved into the camp to evacuate the 24 workers, mostly from French aid agency Medecins Sans Frontieres, to Camp Ciara.

              This is health care at its broadest—dealing with essential 
              primary care and addressing basic health needs for thousands. The 
              challenges encountered by those working in humanitarian aid are 
              quite different from those experienced by specialists and family 
              practitioners in developed countries; for example, it is often necessary 
              to overlook the individual patient in order to best serve the population.
