jklugman says: This discrepancy between punishments for prostitutes and for johns is outrageous. I'd rather have prostitution be legalized, but if we're going to be jailing prostitutes, then johns ought to be given the same sentence--not a slap on the wrist. Agreed. No rehab for addicts but rehab for johns? Maybe the DoJ is gearing up for all those new students once the DC Madam list hits the streets! If we're going to be jailing prostitutes, then johns ought to be given the same sentence--not a slap on the wrist.Absolutely! Maybe the DoJ is gearing up for all those new students once the DC Madam list hits the streets!Hmmm...an amusingly good insight, ratilfar. This double standard is outrageous. You hit it on the head: legalize prostitution. Monitor and regulate it, remove the criminal element. I've never understood why prostitution is illegal anyway. All they are doing is wasting taxpayer dollars on consensual sex between adults. And you guys are right -- punish the johns just like you would punish the prostitutes. This is ridiculous. According to http://www.prostitutionprocon.org the U.S. arrests 70,000 to 100,000 a year with the majority being females. What a waste of police dollars and prison space. |
