I saw this earlier and wondered whether it was cluipworthy or not. Welp, here's my answer. Google better be on guard as being labled too corporate soon or their inevitable sink will start. "Google is like the Borg," said Milo Medin, a computer networking expert who was a founder of the 1990s online service @Home, referring to the robotic species on Star Trek that was assembled from millions of individual components. "I know of no other carrier or enterprise that distributes applications on top of their computing resource as effectively as Google." The rate at which the Google computing system has grown is as astounding as its size. In March of 2001, when the company was serving about 70 million Web page views daily, it had 8,000 computers, according to a Microsoft researcher who was given a detailed tour of one of the company's Silicon Valley compu... Wait five years. It'll be iPod size. "The towers, looming like an information-age nuclear plant..." I just love that description - it is so visual. ok... these are just crazy.... why on earth woudl you ever ever need that much power, they might as well just make an insane GRID, also how woudl thet etchnically link all that together. they shoudl maybe concider making their own CPU like the cell used in the PS3 When you have a big computer are the viruses bigger too? Actually, I think its a grand idea. The next step would be a satellite grid. Hello SkyNet! Is it possible for the WWW to spontaneously become aware of itself as an entity? Reminds me of a show I saw in the Buhl Planetarium in the 60's about a giant computer amassing so much knowledge it became godlike and absorbed the universe then exploded in a big bang. woa! HAHA... skynet... i think the whol thing is google wants to create google net... its own proprietay internet off the net, totally protected, totaly ad aware and tracking you every move so they can sell it to media giants. All those thing syou heard about google buying all the dark fiber in the US, rmors about Wifi no it is their secret plan to try and take over the net... wait and see it will be scary. It seems like power is going to be the next big limiting factor for these data centers, which is one reason to put this data center near so much hydro-electric power. People joke about this data center looking like a nuclear power center but I have to wonder if google is soon going to be building it's own power plants. They already have their own private dark fiber based network, their own data center, their own satellites why not build your own power plants too and become totally self sufficient? Most likely a nuclear reactor is in order. Hidden deep inside a granite mountain, only Google will survive a holocaust ( and cockroaches!) And then... World Domination!!!! All you data are belong to Google. |
