invictus says:
The new report is expected to say this means there is "a significant probability that some large-scale events (eg deglaciation of major ice sheets) may no longer be avoided due to historical greenhouse gas emissions and the inertia of the climate system".

In the mean time the Antarctica ice cap continues to ignore Al Gore and then consensus and keeps on getting thicker.

So you think it's Al Gore who "invented" all the climate change discussions, reports and analysis... I am amazed at American right's view on global issues, looking from a small window where every single concept, term, issue, debate and discussion seem to be a Dems - GOP case. Maybe you can't see from the other side of the Atlantic but there were many scientists, researchers, universities in the world, before Al Gore. As for the Antarctic ice sheet melting, it's not an election campaign tale that Gore made up and told - ah, and you are dramatically wrong about "Antarctic ice cap getting thicker". I wish you were right.

Increased snowfall over a large area of Antarctica is thickening the ice sheet and slowing the rise in sea level caused by melting ice.

A satellite survey shows that between 1992 and 2003, the East Antarctic ice sheet gained about 45 billion tonnes of ice - enough to reduce the oceans' rise by 0.12 millimetres per year.

Never mind, I can give you links to tons of reports and researches showing the opposite.

The most important thing according to me, is, this is not an "I was right you were wrong" discussion. Neither this is a battle field for "rival" scientist groups debating what causes the climate change. It's a matter of "preparing" for the climate change, not fussing on cutting the greenhouse gas emissions or not. The climate change is happening and will keep going in upcoming years, regardless of we cut emissions or not. The only genuine and essential thing about the upcoming changes is getting ready to face it and take the necessary precautions. If you feel yourself very comfortable ...

Reminds me of King Canute. Why the tide is rising is beside the point. We'd better start moving above the water line, and working out where the fresh water is going to be, not where it was.

They know nothing about real causes of the climate change. All they can do is to play around using fishy models. Why did paleoclimate change? No answer. What was the reason for global warming in the Middle Ages (up to 3C warmer than now)? No answer. What is the mechanism of El-Nino that influence on climate in such a big way? No answer. How can they know that the CO2 is to blame for the current change? And, what is more, there is no common sense to save the ice caps that used to melt completely and then formed, time and again.

Sooners,
What if you and the minority that believe as you do are wrong? I'd rather err on the side of caution. Are you afraid it's going to cost you tax money to correct the situation?

What if we had followed those who demanded we just 'do something' in order to stop the coming of the next ice age just a few decades ago? What if we had taken measures to stop that cooling trend? Where would we be now? Doing something just for the sake of doing something isn't always a good thing, and scientific consensus (which we are actually quite far from here) is very often wrong.

THE SKY IS FALLING!!! THE SKY IS FALLING. Err....I mean....

THE ICE IS MELTING!!! THE ICE IS MELTING!!!!

good info sooners. It doesn't matter what we do then, according to this info in the clip.

" there is a 50% chance that widespread ice sheet loss "may no longer be avoided" because of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere."

So then, what's the hurry?

How about this? Get those demoncrats who control congress to pass some bills about increasing gas milage of all vehicles? Start looking at ways to reduce CO2 and make it happen, instead of clammering about it being Bush's fault.

Hell, Saddam burned hundreds of thousands of gallons of crude oil but we shouldn't have stopped him cause i...

Well, even though it is actually true. It still fits the global warming model. However, if say it's not then you must disagree with global warming. See, the fact is , the Earth is warming. But it is due to the same thing that always causes the Earth to warm and that is the Sun. When the Earth warms, glaciers recede, more moisture gets trapped at the poles, then we get thicker ice caps. Invictus, you have shown me here something here and that is that you do not even know what the global warming models predict.
The question is not climate change. The climate always changes. The quest is are we causing it? ALL the EVIDENCE says NO.

Notice how many pops for the doom and gloom? It's the knee-jerk, fearmongering, cause-seeking, loopy-left. If there were an article tomorrow in all the papers that said:
" ALL SCIENTISTS NOW AGREE GLOBAL WARMING FEARS WERE WRONG - Al Gore still swears he's right"

The left would put 0 POPS on the board for that clip.
