ashleystar says: love this movie. This was a great movie, if slightly disturbing. Most great movies are slightly disturbing. very true. like, "dogville" for instance. that movie made me break down in an unexpected pool of sobs. still probably one of the best movies i've ever seen. Good movie, Dogville. It drove home hard to me at what point you forgive the transgressions upon you by others who keep doing wrong. Ashleystar, any chance of an outline of the movie and why it appeals to you?. You've peeked my curiosity, but I've never heard of it. Thanks well, the manner in which it's filmed in itself is very interesting. it's set is on a stage with the town literally outlined and open so as to see how everyone interacts during every scene. the movie has what some may say are anti-american undertones. the director is from a nordic country where most policy is socially liberal. however, the main message is very clear and indicative of human nature in general. how societies evolve into their own evil mechanisms at the expense of others. this story focuses on capital punishment and how society can put people in a place to be treated as "dogs", similar to prison sysyems today and death sentencing. nicole kidman, the main actress becomes a victim... Thank you for responding Ashleystar. I'm intrigued, but also a tad anguished at the content. This is not going to be easy viewing for me, I can tell. But I'm going to try and get a copy. Thank you. i had no prior knowledge of the story when i watched. it was intriguing all throughout the three hours and really surpised me because it was unexpected. it begins as a very hopeful, feel-good movie and obviously ends on the contrary. i should have known better, given von trier's previous work, but i'm so glad i didn't know of the plot for i don't think i would've watched it or even appreciated it as much. but good luck with that. if you appreciate independent film, you'll really enjoy it. |
