The 60-year-old MP for Thurrock, Essex, believes the ‘rights and liberties’ of 
the public is currently being undermined by the dominance of party whips.

MacKinlay said the final straw was the failure of his fellow MPs to act on the 
case of Gary McKinnon, an Asperger syndrome sufferer, who the US is trying 
to extradite for hacking into their military computer system.
