This is such sad news.

Clarke was a man of amazing insight, with a gift for transmitting his awe and respect for the wonder of science into art for all of humanity to enjoy. No one who saw 2001 would ever be the same afterwards, knowing that the future, whatever it may bring, will be unlike anything we can possibly imagine.

A devoted defender of rationality and — above all — a tireless promoter of his vision for a kinder, better, and more humane society through the careful application of science, politics, and art; he will be sorely missed.

It is no small compensation that his writings — and the generations of people he inspired to strive for a better future for our species — will live on for eternity....

Truly a colossus of Science Fiction...A great loss for all genre fans.
