web_guy94301 says: New article about hearing loss in teenagers due to music players and what can be done to prevent it. I don't think this will be taken seriously until some of the long term effects start becoming obvious. Those using mp3 players are bound to lose hearing because as the hearing is dulled, the volume will be turned up, and hearing loss will not seem the cause, until it is pionted out and measured by a doctor. It is likely future users will be warned by results of use. Sometimes where advice is unheard, the message can become clear when shown in people with description of the use that led to the loss. There is no maybe. The sooner users understand the problem the less damage will be done. Hearing is lost because hairs known as 'cilia' line the cochlea, and translate movement caused by sound in... I lost some hearing in my left ear when I was 19 due to a brick of black cats set off in the weather strip of my car window at a drive thru. I did it and it was cool but the loss of fequency I never got back. Now I must always increase treble when I listen to music. Sometimes people complain about it sounding too tinny, I don't notice it. |
