In spite of all the blather coming forth from capital hill, this story once again proves the greatness of America. When the American people are FREE to live their lives and make their own decisions, we have proven time and again the USA is an altruistic nation. Although the current crop of political hacks continually speak down our nation and our economy, there are still hope for change. America is still great because her people are great.

You have just hit on the fundamental mindset and universal difference in political ideology, which is idealism and materialism. When everything is a function of material forces, then everything has to be mandated, controlled, and liberty-restricted. When individuals act individually or in small groups because they are sovereign, free, and independent, the better alternatives for fostering growth, advancement, and equality always flourish. It has always been that way and always will be that way.

Wilhelm most American citizens are aware of the greatness of this country but most economics professors are not. Most classes on economics teach that greed is the underlying factor to economics and thusly must be stringently controlled. We are certainly living in a divided country, those who understand the greatness of her people and those who would prefer to look at it's citizenry as vile and in need of government oversight and control. I think I prefer the former vision over the latter what say you?

because the unions are not looking out for the worker they are looking out for their own best interests. Consider the union as a smaller version of the federal government. They solely exist by living off the labor and industry of others. They produce nothing, they contribute nothing, they only suck the life out of the host (company) and the worker by onerous taxation. (union dues).

If they had to actually compete and make a profit then they would act differently. But because they exist off the backs of others willing to be enslaved they will continue to think of only themselves. And to think that slavery was abolished in the 1800's.

what say you?
I've said a lot about this. The current political structure supports the materialist paradigm. Both the Republican Party and Democrat Party are dominated by Progressives. You say a majority of Americans believe in the greatness of America, well, that may be true, but it is not reflected in the words and actions of our elected leaders.

I think I have to disagree a little regarding economists and greed. If there is one sensible segment of the academic population, it is economists. Greed is kind of a buzz-word meant to illicit a certain leftist Pavlovian response. Sure, there are greedy people, but so what? Greed in no way describes, encourages, or drives econo...
