clipette says: Amazing that there might have been water on Mars. Where there's water, there's often life! Many still believe there is a good chance Mars has underground water. Important note: Venus once had water but today has none as it all boiled away due to uncontrollable runaway greenhouse effect due to very high levels of carbon dioxide in its atmosphere. The greenhouse effect on Earth currently raises our temperatures by about 35 degrees Celsius, a manageable level. We dont know at what point carbon dioxide levels become unmanageable and runaway, which is why many scientists believe we should be more cautious. So put that in your pipe and smoke it, conservatives and other anti environmentalists. I dont want to have the last laugh here you know... I had no idea they had SUVs on Venus. Thanks for pointing it out, BaMf1. Good to know. Btw, your comment about "our temperatures being raised by about 35 degrees C"... are you trying to be funny? Do you know what a rise by 35 degrees Celsius would be like? Anyway, you can read this about scientifically accurate numbers. I know exactly what 35 degrees Celsius is. The thing is 'Sage' (have to laugh like hell at that) the Earths temperature is affected by carbon dioxide to the extent that if todays temperature in Bangkok is 35 Celsius (and it is) then without the greenhouse effect it would be approximately a chilly 0 C. I never said or implied that there was ever life of any level on Venus. I merely pointed out that you could take a look at that sulfuric acid cloud having, greenhouse out of control planet to see the possible effect that too much carbon dioxide might have on a planet. Your link shows me again the inability of most people to understand science. Just because many factors contribute to global warming doesnt mean its ok to ignore carbon dioxides well known greenhouse effect. If you dont believe that carbon dioxide is something to worry about, go learn about the planet Venus, which is very similar to our own planet Earth, at http://nineplanets.org/venus.html or for you recordsage http://kids.nineplanets.org/ Can anyone name one really, really huge difference between Venus and Earth that might effect the warming there? Seriously sooner, I never once implied the two are the same. Could you please say something that has anything to do with anything I have said? Go take a look at the kids version of the planets website and educate yourself a bit. Of course they arent the same. I realize this just as I know the difference in 35 degrees Celsius. Venus once had water, it is closer to Earth than any other planet, it's hotter than Mercury even though Mercury is far closer to the sun, something happened to increase the level of carbon dioxide and the greehouse effect tumbled out of control, making it one of the most hostile places to live in the solar system. Any contribution to an increase in atmospheric car... What happened on Venus is very clear - they didn't have Al Gore and didn't have Motherf... oops, sorry, I'm forgetting it's a family site and maybe 'Mf' in BaMf1 stands for something else, and that taking nicknames apart isn't necessarily good, because one never knows what the nick stands for, just as the BaMf1 here splitting my nick without a clue what it means, but uncontrollably laughing like an idiot in the process. @clipette - sorry for hijacking your clip here... you're absolutely right - it is amazing about water on Mars. Perhaps they'll find some other evidence of life there one day. Let's try to break this down for mr. science. Let's pretend the Sun is a nice warm woodstove. Mercury, the cat, likes it warm, so he's curled up about 2 feet away from the stove. Venus, the dog, likes it warm but she's 3 and a half feet away from the stove. Earth, doesn't like it as warm as the dog and the cat, so mother earth decides to stay back around 5 feet away from the stove. Which one will take the longest to turn into beef jerky due to loss of water? Now, daddy Mars doesn't like it so warm and he stays 7 and a half feet away from the stove. He's nice and cool, but sadly, he doesn't have any life on him and thus no buildup of carbon dioxide, where the gasses would warm the planet and allow for life to flourish. Well, i give up on having intelligent discourse around here |
