I've been to a black sand beach in Hawaii. It was beautiful. The water was the clearest I have ever seen.

I have been to a black sand beach on the Baja of Calif in Mexico.

Was on the coast of northern California where the beach "sand" was actually wave-action ground abalone shell. It looked black from a distance, but up close the grains were every color and iridescent.
