Now Slovenia is democratic republic and part of EU and life here in many areas goes only worse from year to year: we have incomparable much more crimes, drug addiction, social injustice, corruption, brutal exploitation of people and nature. Politics are mouthful of environment, but environmental situation in reality is generally worse as it was in time of socialism 20 years ago. Especially drinking water pollution goes worse rapidly.

It looks here that people run much wilder under the capitalistic system and generally they are more apathetic and self-oriented. What is maybe the most surprising is fact that overall feeling of freedom and safety degraded rapidly, too.

I have to emphasize that this is characteristic for Slovenia because we had uniquely mild (but far from “tender” off course) socialistic system, independent from eastern communist regime under “daddy Stalin” iron hand. Situation now is very complex and different in eastern ex-communistic countries (some are in EU now, some are under strong Russia influence, some becomes religious oriented etc).

Personally years ago I was much more socially active as I am momentarily. The ground reason is my “not ideal” health situation. However it goes better slowly and I think I will start to work more openly again; this days I am definitely too much tied to computer and to indirect contacts with people.

Here in Slovenia we have relatively strong official group of Share-international supporters. I am in contact with them periodically, but I am planning to help them more actively in future.

There will always be poverty, but that is no reason people need starve. Poverty is a relative concept. There will always be those who have more than they need, but we are running out of reasons to deny the poor enough provisions to keep them healthy. If we have a billion poor they can be poor if only for the fact that they have the least, not because they don't have enough. How much can the world produce, while preserving a system that can be maintained? How much would we need in total if we were to cater for the population of the world. Improved conditions make this need seem less pressing, Fewer children are needed to consolidate a healthy family, and the parents can have a firmer basis to plan a future. I have heard there is the capacity to produce the amounts of food required, but reason is being hamstrung by artificial barriers, like tariffs national boundaries, trade agreements, economic principles, e.t.c..
