This puts a spin to the Death Penalty debate. They are asking Italy to reinstate the Death Penalty and to change their life sentences to Death sentences.

I am from Slovenia, east neighbor of Italy. As I know treatment in Italian prisons is generally better than in US prisons.
I suspect this prisoner’s ask for Death Penalty in Italy has more cultural origin and is related wit more emphasized question of honor, especially in south Italy.

I am going to have to agree with Duvelic. In my experience Italian people have a romantic sense of honor so the death penalty may feed into that.

Also I found that Americans are much more fervent about their religious beliefs than the Italians are. Over there you go to church until communion (or is it conformation can't remember) then start going again when you think you are about to die.

I do wish more of our prisoners were asking for the chair.

True, however, it would be a valid counter-arguement. The argument made quite often is that it is in humane, and that life imprisonment is a viable alternative, this can be used to as a counter-arguement to that arguement.

I would much prefer to be executed rather than spend the last 50 years of my life in prison.

Why not allow assisted suicide for lifers who feel this way?
