Good find Invictus. Did you have an opportunity to visit the "clipart" from the 50's, linked on this site?

98% of the clipart depicts men. The 2 or 3 clips I found in the section I was browsing, showed women "surprised," "jumping," and "telling secrets" or gossiping. I suppose that's all they had to do all day while their man worked and posed for clipart.

But it does give you an idea of how the economy and workforce has changed. Today's clipart shows many more women in the work force than the 50's.

Yes, does images really present a "patriarchy" show It's among the characteristics of the time. 50's were the last phase of long male-dominant and conservative time frame. The times when Sen. Joe McCarthy stormed the country with his "communist hunts" and imposed the cold war ideology. Fortunately, with the magical sixties the things began to change rapidly - thanks to hippies, feminists and socialists all aroundthe world.

I was in primary school in late sixties and in our textbooks, there were still the remnants of that former ideology: I remember a passage that defined the family and the "roles" of the members. "Dad" was the one to work outside and earn money, manage the family bud...
