I remember watching Gavin de Becker(?) on Oprah and his most important piece of advice was to NEVER allow oneself to be taken to a second location. Living in the most crime ridden country in the world, and outside the hijacking capital of South Africa (Durban), this is a crucial bit of information. Recently a local woman was hijacked at gunpoint and was instructed to get back into her car. She refused and told her assailant to kill her right there because she wasn't going anywhere with him alive. He was so flummoxed by her response that he ran away.

Another great piece of advice, should one be grabbed from behind, instead of treading on the attacker's toes, jab your heel (hopefully spiked) into his shin and grate it full-force downwards. Apparently the pain is quite overwhelming.
