Beauty fades. They ain't gonna be young forever and it's obvious there is pressure to take it a step further into prostitution. Yes, it is disturbing. Yet another example of the long history of women being there to service men - smile and look sexy, baby, it's your job. Perhaps women like it, some might say - but sex, education, work, and power are all at play here. The entire network of social structures is complicit in perpetuating what seems inherently wrong to me - that men hold the power, are to be served, need women to be sex objects for them, while the women are defined by their looks and are kept in their place - easily exploited and at the mercy of the system. And the question never gets asked, that is, what a "real" woman is, the essence of a woman, not vanity, and not beauty that all men admire and covet in a woman. reminds me of something that the incoming gov of alaska said in reference to sarah palin ... "I will tell you one thing," Alaskan Jon Thompson told a CNN reporter. "If we get a woman president, let it be her. She is a real woman. She knows what a woman is supposed to be. She is pro-life. She is pro-family. She is pro-woman." As if there is a prescribed and limited definition of what a woman is supposed to be. She/we can be anything .... that being pro-choice, pro-gay marriage? (what is the opposite of pro-family anyway?) and anti-woman???? wtf? this guy make about as much sense as she did! There is so much that bugs me about SP ... that's another rant. But this quote caught my attention... If Sarah Palin is the epitome of a real woman, then we are all in trouble. |
