China is the easiest place for WHITE westerners to get work, as the Chinese love having western white faces teaching their kids.

I witnessed this phenomenon many times, but once in quite a cruel way:

Two gals were up for a teaching job in Shanghai, both raised in Canada. One girl was the child of Asian parents, and so although she was western, she looked Chinese. The other gal's heritage was Irish, and although she did have some interesting background related to teaching-- she had no degree. The Asian looking gal had a PhD and experience.

The job went to the Irish-Canadian--none of the parents wanted a Chinese looking teacher as they felt she wouldn't be as good as the other one.

Crazy....

Seriously, getting an English teaching job in China is not hard....getting one that pays well enough for you to save a lot and return home later is quite difficult however. Especially now as so many desperate people are flooding the market.
