The Sheffield ring road opened in November 2007 at a cost of £ 65M. Peakmoor sandstone was used for the walling and the new bridge. Peakmoor was chosen as it is the most prominent sandstone used in Sheffield these days for building. The project demanded high quality stone but one that would blend in with its surroundings. Peakmoor certainly achieves this with aplomb. This section of the ring-road is both functional (it is claimed to reduce journey times) and in keeping with Sheffield’s solid and proud history.
