Ah but then some jargon is actually useful in the workplace as a shorthand for things which take a long time to explain otherwise. It's just that most of it (and I would say it is the management-speak, rather than the (techie) jargon) is weasel words to avoid having your intentions recognised. I can do weasel words, I can even enjoy it, but I never use it in anger against anyone other than a manager That is all true, Pat! Problem for academia as we move across fields, lessening hopefully, is framing, classification and insulation (Bernstein). My own anger is not at jargon per se but at the PR disneyland of educational phrases that purport to address social inclusion but keep exclusion in its hegemonic place. |
