Um. Sort of, but since buddhism is about right action etc, and somewhat opposed to finding spiritual technologies as a psychological shortcut to getting stuck on pleasure, this is a somewhat ersatz hijacking of the word. To select bits of a religion that happen to fit in with a lifestyle and prevailing cultural values may be to damage the religion.

You're right.There may just be too much that is contradictory to Buddhism to even disrespect the true "way" by attaching to it their current endeavors.
From what I can gather this is a distortion of the original thing. Just gleaning certain elements in order to attempt to fill a spiritual void really disrespects the true Buddhism. Or "x", or "y". The fact that they are searching for something to do the job is a good thing, although many seem to be hijacking it for business pursuits. The article makes it quite clear that it is not on the whole a full-fledged immersion into true Buddhism.
