Geshizar says: A blog by an Arab woman, worth a read although you may not like what you see. I’m sure many will dismiss this as yet another terrorist rant, after all this is America, and we are Americans. We will dismiss it out of fear, and we will dismiss it out of our own hate. We will dismiss it because we are Americans and our own high opinion of ourselves will not allow us to believe that a normal person could despise and hate us so much. and as such we will ignore yet another voice, we will dismiss it out of a warped sense of patriotism and nationalistic pride. “Nationalism is our form of incest, is our idolatry, is our insanity. ''Patriotism'' is its cult. It should hardly be necessary to say, that by ''patriotism'' I mean that attitude which puts the own nation above human... “Patriotism is proud of a country's virtues and eager to correct its deficiencies; it also acknowledges the legitimate patriotism of other countries, with their own specific virtues. The pride of nationalism, however, trumpets its country's virtues and denies its deficiencies, while it is contemptuous toward the virtues of other countries. It wants to be, and proclaims itself to be, "the greatest," but greatness is not required of a country; only goodness is.” Sydney J. Harris: American Journalist and Author. Is this woman, Layla Anwar, a terrorist? or maybe a (Phony) Iraqi. I certainly can't answer with any certainty and I doubt any of you could either. I do know for certain that their ... Sorry, 96 characters short Gracious Lady, Mother of all that lives, we call out to you to guide all of your children. Bless our eyes, that we may see each other with love. Bless our ears, that we may hear each other with understanding. Bless our mouths, that we may speak to each other with compassion. Bless our hands, that they may heal, not harm. Bless our feet, that we may walk beside each other in peace. Great Goddess, Mother of birth and death and rebirth, Goddess of the green Earth that feeds us, of the creatures that roam upon its surface, and the tides that lap its shores, Lady of the Cauldron, let all your children drink of its wisdom, and know that all names of the Divine are but ... Ah, What gives us the right to inflict freedom and expression on the cultures of this planet? We provoke rage and hatred in people that are accustomed to THEIR way of life then we can't understand why we are so hated and mistrusted. She may blog that she hates me because I am American but I do not hate back. I can see her reasoning and dispair. She is right about us in so many ways it is disturbing because of the truth of her words. I only hope that we Americans can WAKE UP and smell the shit we are shoveling to the rest of the world. There are many GOOD things we have to offer but we shouldn't be shoving them down everyones throats. We need to lead by example. To her and all the other pe... Words well spoken. Thank but I typed quietly. Its the way I view the condition. Sometimes I realize after looking at something I didn't want to see, that if I had not looked it would have knocked me out. Like the people who suspect they have cancer who refuse to go to the doctor on the grounds that this may be confirmed. When the doctor is finally seen, the diagnosis, is terminal, and the patient is told that what has become a deadly condition, could have cured with an earlier diagnosis. True The Web is full not only of facts and information but also challenges to our conceptions. No one who searches 'jews for peace', for instance can, after looking at how so many Jewish groups oppose Israeli poiltical trends, could believe again that questioning Israel is an attack on Jews. The ability to search beneath the febrile diet of mainstream media, simplistic headlines and ideologically driven rhetoric, is a major resource of those who truly believe in understanding, freedom, justice, democracy, humanity. Try searching in google scholar for a week and see what you find. There are many GOOD things we have to offer but we shouldn't be shoving them down everyones throats.Excellent comment Skwirl. Popping both for the clip and your great comment. Ah, and also Geshizar's comments... Comments have made this clip a very important one. You know, I was going to agree with you all here, but then I'm thinking that this Arab woman probably lives in the West (she finds American way of life boring) hence her rants filled with hate seems out of place. She's derogatorily lumping all Americans together and that is not fair towards those who disagree with American foreign policies. No pop. She's derogatorily lumping all Americans together and that is not fair towards those who disagree with American foreign policies. That's for certain Arif, I didn't mean I agreed or understood her feelings or hatred; in fact, she is as prejudiced as those in the West who tend to see all Arabs as terrorists. I just found it remarkable that all these "war on terror" stuff helped nothing but to feed a hate in the Middle East people. It's a very typical example: She uses an old-fashioned stereotype for the Americans (and in fact, for all Westerners) and she's probably a very religious person (revealed when she complained about the "boring way of life".) I found it noteworthy, b... how the events in last 6 years triggered an antagonism, giving some solid "reasons" for the hate. That is sure a ground reality and we can only hope that we all (Americans and others) realize this equally. Because for the perceptions to shift and the hate to subside, the realization of "something continuously going terribly wrong" is very important. Continuously is an important key word. Attitudes and perceptions rarely develop overnight. It is also important that we understand that the political and economic wars we wage can, and will influence people in the same negative ways. We support dictatorships and trade with human rights violators. We tend to forget that third world counties are more then just their political leadership and sources for cheap labor. If we accept the premise that there are good and bad on both side. Next could we agree that the number of racist, bigots, whatever is the same for both. It will usually be the bigot, racists, whatever who will disagree at this point, believing something like all Muslims are fundamentalist manics as if there were no fundamentalist Christians. Back to the vast majority of ClipMarkers, here's my point. Although the number of good is probably the same on both side, there's no doubt as not one of us whites would willingly trade places with an Arab. Are we racist? Even mildly? I don't think so, but I think you get my point. We have given them a bad name. Even white Muslims get a bad time in the ... I agree and believe that all men are created equal. However, all religions are not. I believe in the "goodness" of the United States Constitution, and the intent that our forefathers had in mind for this great nation. As Tony Blair stated, "just compare how many people are trying to get INTO America, not leave it." (Loosely quoted). That rings home as a reply to anyone wanting to criticize America's policies, including myself. Human thought will fail the process, since humans too often rely on their own guidance. In my opinion. Sorry for my inability to communicate to certain people who are NOT racists, bigots, morally superior, sectarian, and so on. Obviously this includes anyone who believes their god is better than another, Catholic better than Protestant, their crocked government system is better, their media freer, Americans better than the rest, and on and on. They are excluded from my request as they are only capable of producing more of the same. I was addressing the majority here, who so eloquently spoke to my heart and brain to ask them to go a stage further in their journey and see this world from an Arab or Muslim point of view, and then judge their anger and even hatred. The Arabs are famed for thei... |
