I've been thrust into the service of another. As a clipper I had my own identity. Now I must guide others. I feel like I've been drafted.

I think "guides" sounds creepy too. I don't really like it.

If elected, I will not serve.

I don't really care for the title "Guide" either. Do the rest of you think maybe they're taking something good and over-improving?

I thought I was the only one who found the word 'guide' a little weird...glad to know I'm not alone
All we're doing is sharing interesting things we find on the internet...no offence, but I don't consider any of you as guides

I didn't like going from My Clips to Your Clips. Ouch!

The other night I went through my long, really long, list of guides and trimmed it down by keeping only the active ones. So all my guides are now active guiders (is that a word?), and I'm feeling good (feels like I had a hair cut). LOL.

I don't like it either, 'clippers' was unique, it helped build the unique clipmarks experience. I hope we get it back!

Antara, I hope you have great vacation. mine was short and i feel like I'll never catch up with all the clips i missed

and abailart, being a girl myself (or, used to be...)) and perhaps not ever being a scout, i don't mind if that is the conotation. but yeah, I want our clippers identity back.

Take it from someone who saw no clip restrictions and the base model. YEAH , over and over. BUT they have also made some great improvements and those times they did shit like this they were men enough to fix it before it got away from them.
Clipdaddies, I still have faith in your dream, the best thing you have going for you is your ability to LISTEN to your people.

Me and the team are definitely listening and as always, we will continue to give thought to everything we do and never hesitate to undo things we conclude are mistakes.

With this one, i'm still feeling very good about the change to Guides. I don't think Guides are creepy, weird or girls (as referred to above). Rather, I think the word Guide is a compliment to people who post clips that others want to follow. I think it honors the idea that a particular user has contributed to the site in a way that makes others want to follow them. I think it says that even though i may not have known you before, may not be your "friend" like on other sites, you have an impact on me.

If you prefer th...

Thanks for explaining your reasons, Eric. As Arifsali mentions, why is it now "your clips" and "your guides" vs "my clips" and "my guides"? Curious.

In todays world personal is going bye-bye. So many people are fighting the survival battle and losing anymore.
Friendships, true friendships are coming less. People are experiencing a major shift in their expectation of life. There are a lot of people that don't want to be friends with everyone, they just want to keep their stability.
As usual, you intentions are honorable. A few years ago this would have had a different impact.
Right now, when you make someone a 'Guide' you are surrendering another ideal to the machine. To make one your guide, you are saying you cannot navigate clipmarks yourself. When you follow a fellow clipper it is more like "hey, we like the same things, lets hang ou...

Thanks for the update. I agree with skwirl.

When you switched to 'Your' clips you changed the focus of clipmarks from a personal experience to a visitor experience.

I agreed with skwirl too.
I liked the "my" and the "clippers thing, especially when it turned into "clipmates" .. maybe it's the camaraderie suggested by the closeness to the word shipmates? lol I don't know.
It's funny how a few minor word changes make such a difference isn't it? - I also did appreciate the explanations though. And all is understandable.
What I like most here is that our input is actually heard. I'm sure I'll eventually come around to the changes. I always do.

Eric, I support any change which makes this site more easier to navigate for lay users, and geared more towards social-networking / blogging and interactions. I consider My Clips my blog, this is what I blog and it feels good to have people pop/comment on things I blog. The term guide is ok, clipper is ok too, I hardly care for the terminology but there can be more technical changes in the way we manage our guides and other features of the site.

ericw, your response is admirable in its honesty and speed. with that said, I do believe there is a perceptive difference concerning thing that make us tick to me it feels as you guys are trying to universalize Clipmarks, while lot's of the clippers here are happy to be distinct in our own community here.
for me, as I said before, 'my clippers' is a natural denizen of this community. it is a term born with clipmarks, that breath the same air for which I am here.
Its the sort of thing that makes this place home for me.
I personally don't like 'guides' for various reasons, and others had expresses dome of those. Yet, most importantly, I look with some sadness on the drift from 'our termi...

I liked being a clipper, I was and still am flattered when others comment or pop my clips. But, I still can't see myself as a guide. This is still my favourite site, I enjoy sharing clips and comments from people of all ages and nationalities from around the world.

Thru the dinn of society Climparks shines like a beacon of refreshment. We see the wonders and the horrors of our world and we get to say our piece about it. Clipmarks could be a model for a world government's understanding of our personal desires. I often wish world leaders were clippers(Guides) and used clipmarks as a meme thermometer. It will be clipmarks like thinking that will bring us to a type 1 civilization.

hear! hear! I miss the friendly term "my Clippers" at the top of the page. "guides" has a very hierarchical ring to it. aren't we after all just a community that likes to share and exchange interests & views???

Any chance that some of you are taking the word "Guides" a bit too dramatically - like we're suggesting they're your life guides? We're thinking of "Guide" a little more along the lines of Tour Guide, TV Guide, etc. In my opinion, in that spirit, it's fair to think of users you follow as your Web Guides. I think of them as people who find things on the web that i want to see. Referring to such people as Guides seems perfectly appropriate.

Great clip FtF and important and yet allow me to point that what EricG said about the concept of guides being a compliment and respect issue is crucial and it seems I am in the minority here in liking the change. I have no problems whatsoever with the concept guide/s for as I see it, we are all to different extents guides of each other, the very fact that we choose to clip certain clips and not others reflects upon our interests and goals, hence it is also a reflection on our, for lack of a better term, guidance system. Same system when made public makes us naturally guides to those that choose to follow these clips, pop them, and comment on them. I know that I ‘follow’ certain guides that l...

What is the cutoff for clips on the public sorts?
Even popular clips are being removed even if they are commented on.
There is no longer a natural flow, We have all been teathered.

There hasn't been a change to Popular in many months. It has always been determined based on number of pops, timing of pops and recency of the clip.

so, few days into the change, and it already feels less odd... thanks to wildcat's comment for the perspective, and to the 'eriks' input, it does help when adapting to novelties i still miss our own vocabulary though, and i do hope CM will manage to maintain its uniqueness even as it expands. This has always been my main concern in these regards. Thanks everyone for partaking in this discussion, its good to know one's friends/guides are listening.
