It sounds as though Gonzales is saying his mistake was that he let his chief of staff, Kyle Sampson, single handedly make all the decisions on who to fire (read: "I didn't do it - my chief of staff did it!"). Or put another way his mistake was that he didn't supervise what his chief of staff was doing. If this was what was meant, he's asking the public to also accept that he didn't supervise or communicate with his chief of staff at any point to understand why Mr. Sampson was relieving certain US attorneys from their duties. This is either a case of gross negligence or a lie to divert attention away from an uglier sin. Even the lesser of the two begs a question – do we reall... That's even more b.s. than you typically get when a politician or lawyer is full of it. What a truly despicable person, but his record was well known before the Bush regime tapped him for a position far above both his integrity and abilities. And now he has the effrontery to proclaim that the buck stops anywhere except on his desk. Isn't that what appealed to Bush about the man? |
