ratcatcher2 says: Is Obama now Chavez's latest Amigo, joining with the ever increasing list of friends of the Venezuelan leader? What 'balls'! Al last, America has a leader that will not be chased out of South America, as Bush was. Long live peace for all in the Americas. fta In an opening speech to the 34-nation gathering on Friday, Mr. Obama promised a new agenda for the Americas, as well as a new style. “We have at times been disengaged, and at times we sought to dictate our terms,” Mr. Obama said to loud applause. “But I pledge to you that we seek an equal partnership. There is no senior partner and junior partner in our relations.” Mr. Obama also extended a hand to a leader Ronald Reagan spent years trying to drive from power: Nicaragua's Daniel Ortega. The Sandinista president stepped up and introduced himself, U.S. officials reported. Yet soon after, Mr. Ortega, who was ousted in 1990 elections that ended Nicaragua's civil war but w[b]... That will certainly drive the right wing apparatchiks nutters! How dare Obama shake hands with Socialist. The same way Bush held hands with a Saudi king and Reagan sent billions to Saddam while at the same time trading arms to Iran via Israel to illegally support the Contras, Carter hosted the Shah and Eisenhower got a parade in Franco's Madrid. The Empire is fading fast in great part do to the neocon bloody blunders in Iraq. Agreed, but in my view they all talk too much. Less talk more action! I know I am asking too much too soon, but we have been frustrated for so long............. Why do these pictures make me feel all fuzzy inside? Why do these pictures make me feel all fuzzy inside? If it was Bush in the picture, would your feelings be the same or would it have to be a nightmare or insanity? Chavez was more forthcoming with reporters. "We shook each other's hands like gentlemen, and it was predictable this would happen," Chavez said. We don't have any complexes that would prevent us from extending our hands to each other. I'm grateful for his gesture."Photos released by the Venezuelan government show the two smiling and Obama touching Chavez on the shoulder. Other photos show them with clenched hands in the room next to the main summit ballroom while the heads of state and government were waiting in line to enter the opening ceremony. The Venezuelan presidency also said Obama initiated the handshake and quoted Chavez as telling Obama he hopes for better relations... If it was Bush in the picture, would your feelings be the same or would it have to be a nightmare or insanity?I know Chavez better than that. If Bush was using one hand to shake with, the other would have been reaching inside his jacket for his 357 magnum. Bush could barely give even a warm welcome the day Barack and Michele entered the White House. When Cindy Sheehan visited the White House after the death of her son, she reported that Bush's hand shake was the coldest she'd experienced. He showed no empathy with the families and was totally self-centred. Brain dead. |
