We are always facing choices where two things are compared and we must choose between them. There has to be an appeal to the sense of fair play, that for every prosecution, there must be a defense. There is always more than one way to do something. You just have to make sure both sides have a fair hearing.
Sometimes the words come out as they strike the mind, but there is usually a trigger. Trace the thought to the trigger-Why did I say that?, and compare it with the case for the opposition . We can stop telling our selves to do something, when we do it, when we decide we won't do it, or that it's impossible. (The phrase nothing is impossible probably depends on your definition of nothing)

Talking to myself is the one way I can be 100% certain of having an intelligent conversation. My cats run a close second.

Talking to my cats is the only way that I can be 100% certain of having an intelligent conversation. Talking to myself is questionable.

I talk to my dog, and if the conversation doesn't contain a few of her favourite words, like 'chicken', 'walking,''chewy bone,' or beach, she's not interested.
Of course I think that while she does not understand meanings, she can work on a tone.
I think what a dog becomes depends on what you call it, and which behavior gets it the most attention. We once had a dog named Bandit that got caught in a chicken coup, trying to bury the chickens for when she came back. She had to be sent to the farm.
Dogs want attention, particularly if there are a few competing. Yelling at a dog can almost be seen by a dog to be the best way to get center stage, and 'bad' behavior can be repeated or learned. Tel...

I talk to myself and most of the time I'm not even aware of doing it. I talk to my cats (they're good listeners) and I also have a tendency to talk to various things (objects, plants, etc...) around me.
It's the last one that concernes me the most ; the talking-to-myself & cats stems from me being the only child (with cats).

pokkets the other day I saw a man talking to his dog in complete sentences which would have required the ability to process logic and understand the English language by the dog.

The conversation was not 'fetch' or 'good doggy', it was the owner's attempt at behavior modification. He was apparently displeased with the dog's behavior and I guess he thought the dog would conform after a verbal explanation of conflict outcome.

The dog sat there with a look on his face like, 'please shut up already',
