Consider the river has many tributaries in between. If there are no increase in flow to the river, the bigger and more upstream tributaries will drain the river to the extent that those lower down stream will have nothing. The ordinary consumer (the river) has a fixed income to buy good and services. If oil hedge funds pigs(large upstream tributaries)are made to drain the consumer's fixed income flow, then everything below the oil tributaries (basic necissities, food, MORTGAGE, etc) will get nothing. If the river dries up (consumer's pocket) then the areas downstream that depended on the tributaries that feed them will ultimately dry up.
