Would you prefer we sent nothing? The reason for this is because the bad guys in Africa are taking all the aid. The aid workers are being threatned and in some cases killed. The UN troops are culpable. What would you have them do. Waste 15 billion in tax payers money? I know your concern is that you think we have imerialistic goals. But all you have to do is look at Iraq to know that isn't true.

Imperialism is different than it used to be. The goal now is not owning other nations, as it once was, but having control of their natural resources. I'm looking at Iraq and seeing that it's exactly true, and that the intended outcome of all the blood shed is preferential treatment for the American oil industry, which was sent packing a few decades ago.

Africa means oil, too. Our soldiers will be dying for the price of gas, not the Darfurians.

Iraq is the perfect example of Empire by proxy. Direct rule is messy, better to put a proxy ruler that will sell you your resources cheap, excuse you from the laws of the land and keep the people in their place. If things go to hell, you fund a coup and get some other fool to run the country for ya.
