pkronfield says:
Even the ultra liberal BBC is acknowledging that we are experiencing a period of global cooling. Quick! Let's raise a carbon tax to release more carbon in the atmosphere to prevent another ice age!!

It's not about whether it's cold or hot today or tomorrow, or this year or next. It's about how the average temperature is moving and how fast.

The rest (from both sides of the argument) is irrelevant.

Temperatures have been declining for a decade now.

Huh. From what I've read, scientists on both sides of the argument agree that global warming is happening, the only thing they're debating is whether that warming is "man made" or not.

Where did you read that temps are declining?

But Mr Jarraud insisted this was not the case and <<<noted that 1998 temperatures would still be well above average for the century.

"When you look at climate change you should not look at any particular year," he said. "You should look at trends over a pretty long period and the trend of temperature globally is still very much indicative of warming."

"La Nina is part of what we call 'variability'. There has always been and there will always be cooler and warmer years, but what is important for climate change is that the trend is up." >>> For those who bother to read the article.

Selecting bits of information to support some political cause has as much truth value as calling the BBC 'ultra liberal', an even more bizarre claim.

I did it the same way that those who have decided that CO2 drives all global warming and that man is to blame do it. I picked a year hotter than this one (1998) and draw a line. Of course, it is only ten years and anyone looking at the big picture would dismiss a ten year trend, but the catastrophic global warming trend that occurred prior to 1998 wasn't much longer. But if CO2 were the primary driver of global warming, it would make no sense that there has been zero warming for a decade now even though CO2 continues to increase.

Does global warming exist? Sure, just as much as global cooling exists. The one thing that doesn't exi...

Let's draw a line from when the Arctic was a tropical forest and dinosaurs roamed jungles in Alaska. Then draw a line to present. Global cooling! Let's draw the line from the last ice age to present... Global warming! Let's draw a line from AlGore's connived Global warming to his bank... Global Warming!!!

The point is to ignore both sides of the argument unless they provide facts and science and that includes Al Gore. The alarmists do not. The skeptics do. So, unless you can provide the science on which you suggest "scientists" agree, then it appears you do not actually believe your comment "the rest ( from both sides of the argument ) is irrelevant". It just points to the problem and that is that YOU WANT to agree with one side of the argument for whatever reasons, be they emotional, anti-technological, political, or as many are, they just love doom and gloom crisis prediction. AGW alarmists are no different from apol...
