debbyski says: "So, if you'll excuse the mixed metaphor, what's the beef behind today's protests? The Obama administration is cutting taxes for all except the very richest of Americans. Reduced withholding is already showing up in millions of paychecks. Then again, this rash of tea parties is being organized not only by the pseudo-journalists at Fox News (with Glenn Beck, Neil Cavuto and Sean Hannity actively stoking the flames) but also by FreedomWorks, a conservative lobbying outfit headed by former House Majority Leader Dick Armey." But tea is not American! It's British, Indian, Pakistani,Russian, Japanese, but certainly not American! American drink beer darnit! ratilfar, the most popular beverage in the Colonies was, I believe, hard cider. Beer did not become more common until large numbers of German and central European immigrants came in starting in the 1840's & 50's. Cider always referred to the alcoholic variety until prohibition, when the definition was changed to specify non-alcoholic. Let's hope they wash those teabags before they dip 'em! Tea is for sissies A generous tot of Old Bushmill's, Jameson's or Tullamore Dew takes it out of the sissy category. The tea parties today are to protest wasteful government spending and to many are aimed at promoting the fair tax as well. Also, they are not "anti Obama" protests, they are anti wasteful spending protests (just so happens that at this time Obama is at the head of the wasteful spending programs) so stop trying to make it seem like some crazy right wing conspiracy just because its supported by conservatives. By the looks of it that article was written by some halfwit who didn't even bother to check the facts about what the protests are focused on. Then again the LA times isn't exactly about unbiased journalism now are they. Well Burn, I think we have had eight years of the most wasteful spending I've ever seen in the Bush Administration and our country is now paying for it and that ain't no crazy conspiracy theory. So, it's an anti Europe protest? Or anti Asian? Or anti American? Pro Bush? We Europeans are very amused, even 'sour puss'. Look they did nothing for 8 years while America was dumbed down. See it as progress that they are now smoking teabags. Fit for purpose, dumb and dumber. |
