自分がこどものころは縄文・弥生というとせいぜいどきを創ったり稲作をする程度でほとんど文化と呼べるようなものなどない、と教わってしまったが、アスファルトをつくったり、祖霊への深い信仰があったり、歌があったり、装身具が豊かであったり、集団で農業を営んだり、実に文化に満ちている。

　鳥取市の青谷（あおや）上寺地（かみじち）遺跡で９９年に出土した約１８００年前（弥生時代後期）の丸太が、高さ１０メートルほどにもなる高床建物の柱材だったと１０日、鳥取県埋蔵文化財センターが発表した。柱材は出土当時に分割されたが、つなげば７メートル以上になり、弥生期としては最長。長さなどからみて、絵画土器に描かれ、中国の歴史書「魏志倭人伝」にも登場する古代の物見やぐら「楼観（ろうかん）」の建築材と推定される。専門家は「楼観の実在を裏付ける貴重な物証だ」と話している。</P></blockquote><div style="height: 2px; font-size: 2px; background: #dcdcdc; border-bottom: solid 1px #f5f5f5; margin: 2px 4px;"></div><blockquote style="text-align: left; padding: 0px 8px; margin: 4px 0px 8px 0px; background: transparent; border: none;" cite="http://www.asahi.com/culture/update/1110/020.html?ref=rss"><P>
　柱材は杉で、長さ７．２４メートル、直径１７センチ。欠損した状態でもっと長かったとみられる。上部２カ所に縦２５センチ、横７センチと、縦１９センチ、横５．５センチ（一部欠損）の方形の穴があった。貫孔（ぬきあな）と呼ばれるもので、床板を支える「大引き」などが差し込まれていたらしい。

　昨年、鳥取環境大の浅川滋男教授が専門の建築史の立場から注目。つないで分析した。浅川教授は「柱材の太さは２５センチはあった。大人数人が乗るのに十分な強度。床までの高さが６メートル、屋根まで１０メートル近い楼観だった可能性が高い」と話す。

　県道建設に伴う発掘調査で出土。当時は弥生期の護岸工事の材料と判断された。保存には長すぎるため四つに切られ、その後一部が朽ちて割れ、五つの丸太になった。
