As a veteran of a number of Chicago winters, some of them with heavy snowfall, I can attest to the savagery with which Chicagoans defend their parking spaces. The minimum penalty for parking in a space someone else had shoveled out was a tire slashing, followed by vandalism on the vehicle and bodily assault on the parker.
