I have always thought this law was stupid too ... but I didn't think the "good ol' boys" in politics would ever leave local businesses open to potential law suites.

My daughter-in-law's family has owned restraunts, and she said it was sad at the end of each day that they had to (by law) throw away so much good food. There is only so much food you can give away to your employees before they would have their pantries and refrigerators packed full to bursting ... which would leave pounds and pounds of great food to go into the garbage each night.

Grocery stores are the same. When food reaches it's "shelf life date" printed on each package or container of food, it has to be thrown away into ...

Grocery stores are the same. When food reaches it's "shelf life date" printed on each package or container of food, it has to be thrown away into the garbage. Some stores even go so far as to put the food into compacters and crush it into a package that cannot be opened or used.

I have known people who would "dumpster dive" at their neighborhood grocery store and bring home enough food to live on for the week. Packages of bacon and lunch meat ... steaks, ground beef, and chicken in packages ... still fresh and eatable.

It is criminal to me to waste so much when so many are hungry! So glad this young man had the vision to want to change this ... and found a politician willing to see it through!
