debbyski says: "As marital equality haltingly but inexorably spreads state by state for gay Americans in the years to come, Utah will hardly be in the lead to follow Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa and Vermont. But the fact that it too is taking its first steps down that road is extraordinary. It is justice, not a storm, that is gathering. Only those who have spread the poisons of bigotry and fear have any reason to be afraid." Fairness and equality will eventually win. It always does. Five-thirty-eight's analysis is that the changing attitudes of the electorate - and the aging of the anti-gay crowd - suggest that after 2013 no state will be able to successfully bring an anti-gay measure to a vote. In Iowa, it would take a Constitutional amendment, which requires a positive vote in two subsequent legislative years before it can be submitted to the public. It's going nowhere this year, having passed the deadline for new bills. Probably 2012 is the earliest such a measure could come to a vote. And right now the public is divided about 49 to 49. Yep, it looks like the public's morals are slowly sinking away. What will be next? How about child molesters having equal rights and marriage? Jay, Please explain how you can logically compare the civil right of a same-sex marriage to child molestation. |
