American cities -- places of immense problems and enormous possibilities -- have vanished from the political landscape. No candidate is offering an urban agenda in this election year. It's dangerous for the country and shameful. Cities hold so many keys to solving the nation's problems -- if you can fix them there, you can fix them anywhere -- that anyone aspiring to be president ought to be pounding city pavements with ideas for shoring up our centers of population, culture and commerce.</P><P>
To be sure, each presidential candidate has talked about issues that are important to cities, such as healthcare and jobs. But none has set forth a comprehensive revival program.</P><P>
