Of course, the majority of wars are ridiculous but privatizing one is especially idiotic. Several things bugged me about the privatization of the "War on Terror", aside from the "War" itself.
1) There is a definite moral "Stink" about profiting from war. (Isn't there a law against "war profiteering" in this country?)
2) The Blackwater (fighting) mercenaries are not only making A LOT more money than our soldiers, but also have infinitely better benefits along with far less responsibility and practically no accountability.
3) The U.S. government (as in we, the citizens) paid Blackwater by carte blanche (as in whatever they wanted with no oversight).
As a f'rinstance: Blackwater might charge...

As a f'rinstance: Blackwater might charge the U.S. $80,000 per non-Iraqi truck driver to cover said driver's employment, insurance and other benefits for one year. Sounds reasonable until we find out that Blackwater hires truckdrivers from Peru at $5.00 per hour and no benefits (except transport to and from Iraq). Doesn't matter what Blackwater pays them, as long as the company gets its $80.000 (My neighbor gets a trucking news magazine, which is where I got this juicy bit from. Quite a deal, eh?
