All the bruhaha around Obama's special olypmics comment is ridiculous. You know he didn't mean to disrespect them and you know he didn't mean it the way it came out. It was a mistake and shouldn't have been said, but come on.

Palin's comment that she hopes it does "not reflect how he truly feels about the special needs community" is a cheap shot and stupid. She's knows damn well that's not the case and to suggest otherwise about the president of the united states is shameful.

Has she yet proven herself to be anything other than shameful? Not so much.

I think the majority of the people know what he met to say and have accepted that and they also realized that he used a poor choice of words in what he said. He apologized to the appropriate people and as far I I'm concerned its time to move on and forward...................but, Then you have a certain element of people who twist and manipulate unfortunate circumstances of others and keep beating that same old dead horse because they have nothing better to do. These people have what I call a Schadenfreude mentality and like to be a big fish in a little pond! I don't think there is a single one of us that has not said something that we wish we didn't say. Bury the horse and move on!

The real interesting thing here is how easily manipulated many of you are when it comes to PARTY politics. I don't remember those on the Left outraged at how Harry Reid and others in Congress made a blatant attempt to smear and misrepresent Limbaugh in his "phony soldiers" comment. You can call this ridiculous, eg, but if you open your eyes you will see it is very common. Where is the outrage when it involves photo-shopped fox news freeze frames or hateful allegations made about Palin banning books, keith Olbermann's parade of complete propaganda and insanity. It isn't even disguised. In fact, a good percentage of clipmarks is a parade of political insanity. Just look at Masbury's clips.

Yes, we know what he meant. It was a Politically Incorrect thing for a President to say and he put his foot right in it. What's good for the goose is good for the gander. Can dish out the criticism but can't take it. He got caught by the speech police.

What I really hate is that *everything* a person says anymore will offend *someone*. It's ridiculous.

And, who are the speech police? They are no friend of mine. If the "speech police" are whoever is opposing the president, then I will support the president... even if that president is Obama.

The "speech police" is anyone who believes he is the determiner of all things *proper* to say. It's subjective, elitist and according to one's own standards of what is acceptable words/conversation/speech.

These creatures have been forced upon us to the point, as I said, that nearly every word we utter has the potential to offend someone. Remember George Allen and stupid Don Imus? What about Ann Coulter and Limbaugh? They're all hounded by the "speech police"...but no one says well "you know what they meant."

Yet had the president said this same thing six months ago, it would have been a completely different story and many of those downplaying it now would have made sure it stayed on the front pages for weeks. They would have said it showed how dimwitted and out of touch the president was, and they would put it on websites and in books making fun of the president. Funny how things can change in just a few short months.

Doesn't mean we have to be like them.

Sorry, but I'm just not one to give them a pass on their hypocrisy and the media's obvious biases. They can run a republican completely out of office over a meaningless gaffe and yet they want their gaffes ignored and not even pointed out. All I'm doing is trying to make them play by their own rules.

He screwed up. 2 billion more and he'll catch GW. We should feel reassured by the constant potshots taken by the RRR. It means they are frustrated and powerless. A very good thing.

Many of the comments above that are defending the criticism of Obama are doing so on the grounds that 'everybody does it, so too bad.' At some point, one side or the other is going to have to resist the temptation to keep playing the game this way and set a higher bar.

He screwed up. It happens. It was not exactly a nice thing to say. But Palin should shut her pie hole the way she exploited her own children, especially the youngest.

EG, Your comment would seem more sincere if you were defending the right, like I am defending Obama. The thing that really stands out is the complete role reversal of the left and right when it comes to the art of the 'faux pas' in our leaders. If one of you had every word you uttered over a four or eight year period, I am sure there would be some silly things that you might think were wrong or stupid in retrospect. Can we just all stop this ridiculous game?

That said, there are few times when its valid, like Bush joking about not finding WMD at the Press Club Dinner or saying "Bring it on". I happen to believe Obama saying there are 57 states is an alarming thing not to immediately correc...

I wasn't equating '57 states' with anything other than Obama's ignorance, your dimness. It's like one accidentally saying they are 57 years old, when they are in fact 50. It is just not a mistake that is easily made. How can the words "all 57 states" roll off one's tongue without instant recognition of an error?

I could not agree with eg more when he says it's time to stop it ALL! For 8 yrs. I listened and heard and never did anyone come out (from the opposing side of the aisle) and say 'stop it; enough!" I guess I didn't make my point well.

I will willingly acknowledge when I get in a pressure situation, among too many people, feel intimidated....I easily say dumb stuff. Of course, I'm not the President and you expect them to be a little more professional, but it's still true that they are human beings. They too say 'dumb stuff'....all of them. Now we can argue policies til the cows come home.

stop it; enough
simple words, but none that could be more applicable to the times.

The point here is simple. "Follow the money".
Who gains by making a big deal about this?
This is pure media hype for better audience stats and sponsorship.

The comparison to Limbaugh or Coulter's and Obama's comments are laughable. Those people make a living being shock jocks.
But we do have some good points here. We all prefer our little drug of the Daily Me.
I have to speak out when I believe comments truly follow bad policy. So I didn't see Obama's comment as anything like that at all, but it was insensitive and he should be more careful. Did Palin use it to her advantage? Of course! That's politics people. And it happens with both parties.
