Think the fact that everyone is reporting that the U.S. is about to drop nukes on Iran might be causing the strength in commodity prices. That wouldn't push oil prices up or anything.

I have 2 words for the Bush adminstration (not true actually, i have a bunch...but here are two of them): ALTERNATIVE ENERGY. spend 1/2 the money that the iraq job is costing on alternative sources of energy and the economy would be rocking, the environment might stand a chance, and we'd actually be doing 10x more to affect the balance of power in the middle east.

I really want to run for president...my entire campaign would consist of only 2 words...alternative energy.

What is your plan to stimultate the economy: alternative energy
What is your plan to fight the war on terror: alternative energy
What is your plan to combat global warming: alternative energy

Alternative energy? Hush your mouth chile; what blasphemy! Why, such profanity is against the uh, code of ethic$$ of Dubya & his oil well-owning ilk...

i hear ya...and it's a damn shame. there is so much good that would come from a greater focus on natural, renewable sources of energy.

egoldstein - you're RIGHT on the money... I mean it sincerely... seems like there are enough people in the country that would support the idea, regardless of what big oil wants/does... so if some enterprising company (actually there are a few out there already) would come out with a decent solution - I'd certainly sign up in a heartbeat. Alternative energy would certainly help in resolution of a number of problems.

i know this will probably sound idealistic and naive, but i wish the big internet companies were doing more about this. they're supposed to be hip, cool, do no evil type companies. they should be speaking out and spending major dollars to drive awareness and innovation of clean, non-middle east, earth-friendly sources of energy.

i'll make this pledge right now. if clipmarks grows into a profitable business we will devote a meaningful amount of our resources to spreading the word and pressuring business and political leaders to do more to spur the development and adoption of new alternative sources of energy.

I would think it is hard to be elected president without some thought on the 45 million americans without health insurance, the fact that being a doctor is closer to walking around with a bullseye for a litigous society than helping people and lastly the fact that companies spend more money on benefits/insurance than on the cars they build or widgets they make... the energy platrform might make sense, but i suggest you broaden it a bit--- 'the guy'

Guy depicts such a brutally true fact of US life:

...companies spend more money on benefits/insurance than on the cars they build or widgets they make...
If we wholeheartedly developed and supported a functional alternative energy industry, perhaps we would have the time, resources and focus as a society to take concrete steps towards universal health care.
