At the end we’ll remember these days as full of wealth but there will be an empty shell of a social safety net, food that is not safe to eat, drugs that may be dangerous or do nothing. We are massively in debt and beholden to China. Our middle class has shrunk and we now have the largest wealth discrepancy of the developed world. Our ignore-ance of the problems of fossil fuels has given us rising sea levels and acidifying oceans. These are the fruits of the grand party we’ve thrown ourselves for the last 29 years. It is easy to feel rich if you empty your bank account. But this is not a dirge or a litany of despair. We can and we will rebuild our wealth. We will come back and we will do so as a nation, together. And it will be stronger than before. But now we must get back to work, the grand party is over. And it will be stronger than before.I agree.
