Changing the initial wording of the constitution from " the pursuit of property" to the "pursuit of happiness" because slaves ... 5. Johnson was opposed by a vast majority of Democrats. The Republicans carried the weight for passing this legislation. If you read the biographies of Johnson you will learn that he relied on Republicans to support him in this and they pulled along some democrats as afterthoughts, who opposed the legislation but went ahead and voted for it anyway because the Republicans had the votes to give Johnson the bill. Most Conservatives int the context of American Conservatism are adherent to Constitutional Libertarianism. They seek to hold firm to the principle is the Constitution. They ARE NOT status quo by definition. They are incrementalists. We recognize the movement , flexibilty, and changing paradigms of human existence. We recognize 1. that there is no such thing as a bad political system. There are only bad people. Bad people seek sweeping and broud control over people. That is what it means to be a progressiv...
