people used to amuse themselves by offering the town idiot his choice between a nickel and a dime. A stranger passing through town saw this, and took the idiot aside and siad, "Don't you know the dime is worth more even though it's smaller?" The answer: "I may be the town idiot, but I'm not really that stupid. If I started taking the dime, they'd stop offering me the choice."
