So my last clip was not a big hit but the one before had good number of comments. I know I have not been using Clipmarks much lately (the clipdaddies wants me to use Amplify and the Clipmarks' original steam has been stolen by Twitter, two big distractions, but no love has been lost no matter how many old timers have jumped off the boat). But there's a lot going on here on daily basis (minus the spammers) and I'm sure you must have your list of things you like to see CM implement or change.

I feel Clipmarks needs rebranding and relaunch with more focus on social-networking aspect. Off top of my head, I can't think of anything new I wish to see here except perhaps the landing page for visitors should be their My Guides' Mix page.

More through the comments .... you add yours as well.

I noticed that CM now has Adsense on individual pages. Nothing wrong with that and I'm not complaining but the Ads are not aesthetically positioned well within the page (perhaps the page would look better if the Ads are in the same table as relevant clips).

I also noticed that CM is doing better than it's closest competitor (calling diigo CM's competitor is totally my guess), but Amplify (no comparison as it is new) is way down in the numbers.

Sorry, I meant to say the Adsense should be in it's own table like the table we have for Today's Top Clips. Ads without the CM's signature table looks ugly.

Arif, i totally agree with your top suggestion - rebranding and reluanching Clipmarks and defaulting users to their My Clippers Mix. It's a plan i'm working on quite a bit...the major hurdle to work out is the load on our server from running that query more often.

Regarding the traffic stats from compete, August was by far the highest traffic on clipmarks we've even seen - not represented accurately on that chart.

Eric, I think you guys should also run the blog on the side (both for Clipmarks and Amplify) to get the appropriate background info out. Although it may sound old-fashioned but having a team's blog (with consistency) provides a value to the visitors' experience. Not that you guys are not around for us but you may not "appear" to be around for new folks. With Amplify, I sometime feel I have no idea what's going on in the background.

another suggestion (although i have no idea how this would work in practice) would be to "tag" clippers in your clips so that if you clip something with a certain clipper in mind, that clipper can receive some sort of a notification directing them to your clip.
I don't mean this to REPLACE the My Clippers feed, but sometimes being away from the site for days at a time can make people miss clips that would probably be of interest to them.

You mean something like an @ sign in Twitter? For clips, it sounds like a neat idea.

i like that idea a lot.

I'm not actually on twitter, but sounds like the @ does exactly what i mean. (And here i was thinking i'd had an innovative idea....).

How about some sort of visual representation of where the majority of any particular clippers come from by show of percentage, like in a pie chart for example, it may also help to deal with spam.

Would a "report spam" button of some kind somewhere be doable? Then everyone could help out getting rid of it.

I would like to see even more interaction between Clipmarks and Amplify like the ability to clog clips and clip clogs with the click of a button. If a clip had already been clogged then it should take you to that clog, and if a clog had already been clipped it should take you to the clip. Did that all make sense?

I'd like, under one's settings or something, a checkbox where you could choose to, by default,

X - "receive comments on all clips I comment on.".

Maybe one to "receive comments on all clips I pop", too.

or at the bottom where we check now, that it didn't take two clicks, ("save" and then "okay" every time) but just one click somehow. Is that little popup box necessary?

Lots of interesting ideas. Good luck Eric!

I want to put in a plea that whatever changes are made the basic clip format is maintained. By that I mean the 1000 character limit, ability to clip from multiple sites, ability to clip any number of images and videos etc. I remember learning how to put a good clip together from the wonderful alanocu, and I am still frequently amazed and delighted by the way abailart turns clipping into an art form.

To me clipping is a pleasure in itself.

Yep. Sometimes I want to clip more than 1000, but it really does force you to focus on the best parts of the text.

And I agree with the report spam button or equivalent feature. Perhaps a few trusted veteran users could also be granted limited powers to deal with such situations, like moderators in discussion forums for example (and no, I'm not nominating myself...I'm not on here enough).

I do wonder if a report spam button could be abused liked the bury thing on digg, I agree with its principles but think it would probbably just cause a big headache for the admin.

The only reason I say this is I used to run a website (card games) for a friend and we had a similar system because of the the host we used for the site. well basically ...

*pop* for the "receive emails for all clips I comment on" idea!! (as ThisName suggested)

*pop* for keeping the clip format as is (in line wiht JohnWaterman's comment)

...........also, perhaps a more permanent space for this sort of brainstorming? every so often a clipper comes along and initiates a discussion like this one, and they are usually received very well - so it seems to me that a lot of clippers would welcome such a feature. of course now i've just realised that i've used a public space to make a suggestion that we create a public space in which to make suggestions.............
a box in a box in a box in a box in a.....

I believe we get emails on all the clips we comment on if we check the box that is on the bottom of each clip. The same goes for clips we pop. I usually go to my Page - move-over mouse to the drop-down arrow under Comments tab and select Latest comment. This way I get to see who has commented after me on any comment I left earlier.

I agree about having a permanent space for this type of brainstorming. Usually a clip like this gets stale and it drops from the main page of Clipmarks after some time. I think if clipdaddies would keep one such clip fresh for all of us for all times, so people can brainstorm (or argue, ask, whine, etc, etc) whenever they want. A team blog is more appropriate if it is updated consistently, but I do not favor diverting user's experience from one site to another. There's already lot of diversion and diversion doesn't work.

I am in support of many of the suggestions in this clip. And regarding spam, it is driving us crazy. We are talking about the best ways to go about preventing it. Unfortunately, this takes us away from other things we're trying to develop, but it has reached a point that is simply intolerable.

Can we have an "email me comments" button for the mobile device version of the site too, please?
Also, (and i realise this is a major request), a way to clip straight from an iphone/ipod touch would be absolutely awesome
