Tornadoes are awesome, it's amazing the number of tornado chasers there are, and how few get injured. This picture is more awesome than you might have imagined if you think about the time period and the fastest modes of travel. In 1884, pictures were taken by steadying the large cameras on tripods. The lens apertures were opened (or uncovered) for a particular length of time and then shut. Most negatives were made on prepared glass plates. I would NOT have wanted to be the photographer, but I am glad someone was wild enough to do it. I can't see making a quick exit on your horse or in a wagon or a buggy.
