celestialdancer says: When I sit outside at night, I am often amazed by what surprises of creatures visit my small space. This snail was a real surprise, I have lived here for quite a number of years and in all that time this is the very first snail I have encountered in these parts. Fortunately it has not been attacking my trees, herbs and few veg that I grow. It's a quarter to two in the morning and all is quiet save for my favourite sound, the lone sweet trill of a little nightjar in my avocado tree. Later in the morning I will awake to the sound of a large troop of vervet monkeys swinging in my trees, thundering across the roof and tormenting the neighbouring dog who will set up a cacophony of baying and barking. And in spring and summer we are delightfully deafened by a nightly chorus of croaking, clicking, chirping and chirruping frogs, both from the river and our pond. Such are the sounds of my life and I adore them. You both sound very lucky to have such wonderful noise in the night and early morning, we have an over-abundance of snails here but they are very pretty. michellezm it really sounds like you live in a wonderful place. In so many ways I am really thankful that I can still enjoy these visits by these lovely creatures - the fact that they still exist in my immediate world. Thanks for sharing your experiences. Tanyamm thanks for your input also. |
