Get rid of it. I hate it. Grrrrrr... It took "academics" to know this?? I could support this in a heartbeat. No more children going to the bus stops in the dark. A benign action that I think everyone would like. An experiment that has revealed it's uselessness. Do it. I don't know about you, but in summer an hour of sunshine is far more useful to me if it falls between 7:30 pm and 8:30 pm (as it does during daylight savings time) than if it falls between 4:45 am and 5:45 am (as it would without daylight savings time). And in winter, if it's going to be dark when I leave work either way, I'd rather have the sun rise at 7:30 am than at 8:30 am. Get rid of daylight savings time? Horrible idea. As far as I can tell, the people who propose i... Just when I FINALLY figured out how to change the clock in my car! Just when I FINALLY figured out how to change the clock in my car!I still haven't figured out how to change mine. I keep meaning to look at the manual that came with the car, but now I won't have to! Just for accuracy: there is nothing in the article or title of the article that indicates President-elect Obama supports this idea. Rather it is an article that says Obama "should" support the idea and then presents its reasoning for believing he should support the idea. Personally I would rather have more daylight in the evening and therefore I guess I would support shifting time ahead 1 hour forever, even though my circadian rhythms are more in tune when we end daylights savings in the winter. Since I've been labeled 'simple-minded'(and I don't mind a bit)...I think our bodies are naturally tuned to *rise* when it's daylight and *sleep* when it's dark. That's a "simplistic" statement, I know; but Edison has allowed us to subordinate our body-clocks now more than at any other time in history. jatfla said:By whom? Neither the clip nor the comments above yours include the phrase "simple-minded", or anything that could be interpreted as "labeling you simple-minded". Please clarify. Or refrain from setting up straw-man arguments. Either would be fine. BobbyRutan – thanks for pointing out that the original (clipped) article says "Obama should axe DST", not "Obama says he will axe DST". We should all start being nice to one another because in another 2-3 mos. we are going to all be up to our necks in the worst Depression this country has ever seen and, we are all going to be hurting. Every single one of us. Most of us will be out of work. Some of us will lose our homes. A few will experience what real hunger is like. We are going to experience things we never thought we would experience. Its going to be bad, very, very bad. Can any of you convence me that I'm wrong??? I doubt I can convince you that you are wrong, but personally I doubt that we are going to experience the severity of the "great depression". There are a lot of alarmists throwing around terms that never experienced the great depression. I haven't either but my parents are still alive and they did. We aren't even close to that level yet. I hope you're right. I have to tell you though, I would feel a lot better if somebody had a plan. I hope they get rid of it! I'm sorry I upset you Lexica...it was from another clip. I only added the "simple" comment because I thought my idea of dark/sleep....light/work, was pretty "simple". I don't know about you, but in summerhow do you figure this, if there is only an hour difference? and I agree with the natural rhythm idea- which is why I would support abolishing the artificial time change- it is not good for sleep patterns. Google "second sleep" . Humans naturally go to sleep around twilight for about 4 hours, then wake for a while, then go back to sleep (second sleep) for another 4 hours, waking at dawn. For all of history this was the case, until edisons lightbulb combined with standardized timekeeping, when humans switched to a different (and IMHO, worse) schedule. I'd like to wake about an hour before dawn every day, so I can start the day enjoying the natural wonder that is sunrise. Obviously with 24 hour clocks, this isn't easy. Is there a clock that adjusts itself *daily* to reflect sunrise, noon, sunset, and midnight? — Comment removed by moderator — If one is working until 5 pm and has 1 hour for the way home, he'll only ca. 6 weeks a year get 1/2 hour of sunshine (if it shines - here count rainy days too) and if he comes at home, he need to use electric light nearly the whole year. He will need psycho-drugs his whole life - do you? If you get up 1 (maybe 2 h!) earlier from may until last week of september, you reduce the waste of electric power for more than 100 hrs. and can enjoy every evening during the summer 1 h of sunshine, was may the use of drugs make superfluo! He will be more content with his life and will get old healthy! This make only sense on sites above 45°N . If any says he will get crazy from a hour of sunshine or the p... OH NICE I said I thought somethingsomeone said was a good idea and that I'd have to look into it.. and lo and behold MY COMMENT DISAPPEARED! WHY!??? |
