Lexica says: My dad had a collection of the Feghoot stories when I was a kid and I loved them. Of course, at this point the punchline is about all I remember of any of them – the setup escapes me. Even so, I was able to drag enough of one out of the mists of memory to tell it to Spiritualmonkey yesterday. Even with my vague handwavery about the bits I'd forgotten in the leadup ("and for some reason – I don't remember why – they get trapped in a bank vault…") the story made him laugh out loud. Click through to the originals if you want a chuckle. And there are many, many more at the original site – I clipped only the original Reginald Bretnor-authored Feghoots; there are hundreds more on the site by other writers. Many years ago, the Magazine of Fantasy & Science Fiction had a contest for reader-written Feghoots and got Bretnor - that is Grendel Briarton - to judge the winners. Mine didn't even make honorable mention. |
