This was especially true in the runup to the U. S. attack on Iraq. What may be more important is the isolation and distance from reality that we all face. After all, we can only process so much of this world. I am always amazed to find whole worlds I never knew existed even within 10 minutes of my apartment, such as my neighbor's refrigerator. (What lurks in there? Is there really no beer or was he just telling me that?) We all move in comfortable ruts that establish our own personal sphere within the broader context of the world. It is a manageable chunk, but we often mistake it for being all there is out there.
