That's not what we got. What we got was alienation, disorientation, destruction of the planet, destruction of natural systems, destruction of diversity, homogenization of cultures and regions, crime, homelessness, disease, environmental breakdown, and tremendous inequality.

Being at the top of the food chain does not give us the right to destroy everything below us, in fact it increases our responsibility to protect it.

If people only adopt the selfish reason for protecting it, is so it can continue feeding us, then that is okay, but it is only part of the reason. The real reason we need to protect it is because it is part of us. If we destroy it are we not destroying ourselves?
