laceym says: ... the hypocrisy of his call for tolerance is likely only to be noticed by those secularists and non-theists who are targeted by his intolerance. To many of us, it will be clear that Romney’s position on religious bigotry is a lot like his position on abortion rights, stem cell research, and gay rights: it’s determined by political expedience. Romney opposes bigotry in self-defense, not in defense of others, which is to say that he does not really oppose it at all. I'm thinking you were quite content to sit quietly by while a slow, yet steady, volley of "reminders" were sent aloft by the media to keep reminding the public that the "Mormon question" may hurt Mit, or are Evangelicals going to ignore Romney?, etc., etc. while it was questionable how much of that was noise to sell media product on the election, or how much was real. If perceived bigotry is to be spoken out about, why did you not speak out about the many "questions" about Mormonism? Are atheists to be catered to with so much more core, concern, and delicacy, in terms of a perceived "slight"? And why would he focus his message on those who already are set on picking the least religiously roo... core = care (para.2, line 3) Great comment davboz. Thanks for pointing that out. I have been quiet about the bigotry toward Romney from the evangelicals and only focusing on his bigotry toward atheists. Shame on me. Romney’s America comprises people of many faiths, it does not include people of no faith, who constitute as much as 9% of the populationNow add the people who just give lip service to thier religon, you know, go to church sleep for an hour, make sure the right people see you, go home, dump on your fellow man. That percentage raises considerably. "Of all faiths" includes Atheists. There were many other religions he did not mention. That does not make him a bigot. Calling him intolerant only points out one's own intolerance. One man's "bigotry" is another man's principles. It is not evil to speak the truth, or to show that the Book of Mormon was originally produced as a piece of fiction, until pawned off by a woman zealot, then by J. Smith. Tolerance implies the putting up with some evil or the word has no meaning. Tolerance therefore is the stupid false virtue that gives way for error to be erected by not condemning it or proving it wrong. If I say 2 + 2 is not 4 is it an evil to tell me I am wrong? I could say that you were very intolerant, arrogant, and "narrow", yet I would be the wrong party nevertheless. |
